I am wanting to make a new tiller on our G23.
Does anyone know what type of wood was used by Grampian to make the tiller?

Also I am looking for the stainless steel hardware like the plates that are bolted on either side of the tiller and rudder too.

Hey Kevin,
I'm not sure what the original tiller material is made of but Holland Marine almost certainly can supply a new tiller, or if not the tiller, they will definitely have the steel hardware you're looking for. You can carve a new tiller out of any decent hardwood resistant to rot and it will hold up well - plenty of online guides about how to do it. Most people wanting something durable will also put some fiberglass or epoxy over the wood to protect it.

Here is the results of me making my own tiller and new hatch way cover, plus cockpit and transom cleanup.
